Novavax says its COVID-19 vaccine 80% effective in adolescents

Novavax Inc has stated that its two-dose vaccine was found to be 80% effective against COVID-19 in a late-stage trial conducted among adolescents aged between 12 and 17 years.

The study included 2,247 adolescents and was conducted from May through September 2021 when the Delta variant was predominant in the United States. The vaccine was 82% effective against the variant. 

The company expects to submit applications to global regulators for the use of the vaccine in adolescents during the first quarter. The vaccine is authorized by the European Union and the World Health Organization and has been approved for use in adults in countries, including the United Kingdom and New Zealand. In the trial conducted in adults, which included nearly 30,000 participants in the United States and Mexico, the vaccine was reported to have an efficacy of 90.4%... (Reuters, February 11, 2022)
